Choosing A Realtor

  • Tip #1 How to choose a Realtor? A great place to start is a referral from a friend or relative, online research, at an open house, or contacting a reputable local brokerage for assistance.
  • Tip #2 Check on-line reviews. A few places to look are Yelp, Google Places, Zillow, etc.
  • Tips #3 Interview several agents before picking a real estate agent. Most experts agree this is often a successful strategy.
  • Tip #4 Ask about experience. How many years have they been licensed? How many transactions did they close the past few years? The average real estate agent closes only 1 or 2 houses per year. More closings often equates to more experience. Request a list of references of recent past clients. Ask if it would be ok if you called a few.
  • Tip #5 If you are a seller ask about their marking plan. An experienced real estate agent will often have a “Plan of Action” this is a detailed list of the services they offer. If you are a buyer ask him about current market conditions and how they can help you with your specific needs.
  • Tip #6 More than 90% of all buyers start their search for homes online. Make sure you choose a Realtor who is knowledgeable about technology and has a superior online presence. A real estate agent in today's world must email, text, and be available to buyers and sellers alike.
  • Tip#7 Make sure the real estate agent works for a reputable local real estate company that has a solid support staff assisting them. In today’s competitive market you often will need a strong support team to assure success. If your property in located in Santa Cruz County I highly recommend choosing a local Santa Cruz Realtor.
  • Tip #8- Ask your agent if they live in the area. An agent that lives and works locally often will have a higher level of knowledge of the local market. They should be able to answer detailed questions about the community, schools, neighborhoods, etc.
  • Tip #9- Make sure the agent is knowledgeable. Ask plenty of questions and gauge his response. Does he communicate the answer well? Is he confident while answering?
  • Tip #10 Make sure the agent is a good communicator. Chances are if you don’t communicate well together during the meeting then it probably won’t get better during a transaction. Picking a Realtor that has great communication skills is the key to a successful transaction.
